On 10th of October, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov briefed the former Italian Prime Minister and current Senator Mario Monti on the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Borissov pointed out that the country relies on a clear and positive programme orientated towards achieving specific results in the field of security, employment and a stronger presence of the EU on the international arena.

Monti is in Sofia for participation in an international conference "The Future of Europe and the Bulgarian Prospects".

Monti expressed his full support for the priorities of the Bulgarian EU Presidency and singled out the Western Balkans as a particularly important subject. In his words, Bulgaria can send a strong message to Europe by hosting a Western Balkans Summit during the Bulgarian EU Presidency. This topic together with the future of the Eurozone, Bulgaria’s admission to Schengen and the issues of security and migration were the main emphasis in the statements of Bulgraia’s Vice President Iliana Yotova and the Minister for the European Presidency Lilyana Pavlova.
