On 18th of January, Bulgaria’s outgoing President Rosen Plevneliev will hold his last press conference and deliver his final speech.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place in the building of Bulgaria’s National Assembly on 19th of January. The President-elect Roumen Radev will take an oath of office and will be sworn in as Bulgaria’s 5th President.

The official inauguration ceremony will take place at St. Alexander Nevski square in Sofia at 11:00 on 22nd of January, when the incoming President will assume office.

The official inaugural ceremony will be attended by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and all ministers of the cabinet: the speaker of Bulgaria's Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva and all Members of Parliament; the Chairperson of Bulgaria’s Constitutional Court Boris Velchev and all constitutional judges; the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Cassation Lozan Panov; the Chairperson of the Supreme Administrative Court Georgi Kolev; Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov; President Petar Stoyanov (1997 – 2002); President Georgi Parvanov (2002 – 2012); acting head of defence vice admiral Emil Eftimov; representatives of the Ministry of Defence; Sofia’s Mayor Yordanka Fandakova; representatives of the diplomatic corps; secretaries and directors of directorates from President Plevneliev’s office; their successors from the team of the incoming President Radev; other officials.

The order of events for Inauguration Day

The official ceremony for changing of the guards will take place on 22nd of January.

At 10:45, the representative units of the Bulgarian Army will be orderly arranged in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier at Alexander Nevski Square, where the outgoing and incoming Vice-Presidents will arrive at 10:55.

Outgoing President Plevneliev will arrive at the square at 10:58. At 11:00, he will receive the report of the Commander of the Guard, revere the national flag, will review the formation and greet the Guard of Honour.

At 11:03, President-elect Roumen Radev will arrive at the square, will head to the right wing of the formation, will receive the report of the Commander of the Guard, revere the national flag, review the formation and greet the Guard of Honour. After receiving the formation, incoming President Radev will join the outgoing President Plevneliev and together will step up to the podium.

At 11:05, Rosen Plevneliev will deliver a farewell speech, followed by the inaugural speech of the incoming President Roumen Radev.

The Guards’ brass band will play the national anthem of the Republic of Bulgaria. During the anthem, a 21-gun salute will mark the change of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The two presidents will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and a minute’s silence will be held in tribute to those who died for the freedom of Bulgaria.

At 11:18, the two Presidents will again step up to the podium to receive the formal march-past by the Guard of Honour.

At 11.45, the two Presidents and Mrs. Radeva will go to Alexander Nevski Cathedral, where liturgy will be served and the two Presidents will light candles.

At 12.05, the outgoing President Rosen Plevneliev and Vice-President Margarita Popova will meet the incoming President Roumen Radev, Mrs. Radeva and the incoming Vice-President Iliana Iotova at the parade entrance of the Presidential building.

Official photo of the two presidents will be made in the Coat-of-Arms Hall, followed by an official photo of the two presidents with the Vice-Presidents.

At 12.10 President Plevneliev and President Radev will hold a meeting in the Green Hall and the two Vice Presidents will hold a meeting in the office of Vice-President Margarita Popova.

After the meetings, President Roumen Radev will escort President Rosen Plevneliev to the parade entrance, as will do Vice President Iliana Iotova for Vice President Margarita Popova.

BNT 1 will broadcast live all events from the official inauguration ceremony for President-elect Roumen Radev and Vice-President-elect Iliana Iotova.

On Wednesday, 18th of January, BNT1 will air the last press conference of outgoing President Rosen Plevneliev.

On Thursday, 19th of January, BNT1 will broadcast the swearing-in ceremony.
