A proposal to raise gas prices by 3.5% in January was submitted by the Bulgarian public gas supplier “Bulgargaz” to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) on 10th of December.
The energy regulator explained that such increase does not require changes in the price of heating and electricity. Under the Energy Act, the regulator may change the prices of heating and electricity only if the gas price rises by more than 5%.
The EWRC is expected to consider and approve Bulgargaz's proposal by the end of the month. In July, EWRC approved a gas price increase of over 10% or BGN 400 per 1,000 cubic metres.
