At a congress on 4th and 5th of February 2017, the Bulgarian Socialist Party approved revolutionary changes to its Statute proposed by the party’s leader Kornelia Ninova. The changes include limiting of its MPs to no more than 3 terms of office and direct elections of the leader by party members.
The proposed changes to the new BSP statute were approved by the majority of the 49th Congress of the party. They envisage limiting the BSP MPs to no more than 12 years in Parliament, or 3 full terms and the leader of the party will be limited to 2 terms and will be elected directly by all party members.
The changes also envisage terminating the powers of the leader earlier if this is required by more than half of the BSP members.
