Bulgarian Socialist Party executive bureau resigns, but not the leader Kornelia Ninova

Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Kornelia Ninova said on April 5 that the party’s entire executive bureau had resigned in, but she herself was not stepping down.

"I was elected only 6 months ago by a large majority in the party, but more importantly, a Parliament is to be formed," Ninova added.

According to her, the main task of the BSP was to break the "GERB Model". After these elections, GERB can no longer rule and Borissov will no longer be Prime Minister, Ninova said.

The BSP leader was adamant that they would not support any government proposed by GERB.

As soon as possible, a national council would be held to elect a new executive bureau, Ninova said.

Extremely important issues are ahead, and maybe new elections, Ninova pointed out and motivated her decision to remain at the helm of the BSP by saying that she would not risk throwing the party into chaos at the moment.

According to Ninova, significant decisions cannot be made without the participation of the BSP.

According to her, the reasons for the election results are that most Bulgarian citizens voted against all parties that had been in the previous government..

"We did not succeed in proving that we are the opposition," the BSP leader said.

"Most Bulgarians voted for something new, different, thinking" Let someone else come. The Covid crisis affected our result - some of our voters - the elderly, did not vote," Ninova added.

The BSP leader said they were consistent and were "opposition, an alternative with a specific plan with clear messages".

Electon results based on 92.95% of tally sheets processed show that BSP is in third place with 14.99% of the votes, behind the party “There is Such a People” of TV presenter Slavi Trifonov, which had 17.9%.

Boyko Borissov’s GERB_UDF coalition is in the first place, with 26.02% of the votes.
