Bulgarian suspected of espionage detained in Serbia?

A Bulgarian citizen has been detained in Serbia and charges have been brought against him. This was confirmed by Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov. He did not specify what the charges were, but added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would request official information on the case.

According to BTA, Serbian police detained yesterday, December 4, a man with initials L. G. from Bosilegrad on suspicion of revealing military secrets to a Bulgarian organisation.

The suspect is accused of having communicated secret military information to members of an organisation from the Republic of Bulgaria that could cause harmful consequences for Serbia's security, defence and military interests, the Military Intelligence Agency noted, as quoted by BTA.

The man was taken for questioning to the chief prosecutor at the Supreme Prosecutor's Office in Vranje and was remanded in custody for 30 days.

The newspaper "Južne вести" said that the raid was carried out by representatives of the Serbian Security and Information Agency, the government intelligence agency, the police in Vranje and the High Prosecutor's Office in Vranje.

There is no information on whether the suspect is a member of the Serbian armed forces.
