In a letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, the Bulgarians in the country asked to be part of the working group for constitutional changes, the Ministry of Justice said on April 25, quoted by Tribuna.mk.
In the letter, the associations of Bulgarians in North Macedonia, who signed the letter, congratulated the authorities for the formation of the working group for constitutional amendments and stated that this was a step forward in solving the issue of including the Bulgarian people in the Preamble of the Constitution, and thus guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of its members.
The proposal of the Bulgarians is that representatives of the Macedonian Bulgarians should be included in the work of the commission, and that the associations of the Macedonian Bulgarians themselves should propose which people should take part in its activities.
In the letter, they point out that the non-inclusion of the Bulgarians in the country's constitution in 1991, and with all the constitutional changes since then, is a great historical injustice, since it is the Bulgarian people who were the most constructive element in the proclamation of the country's independence, its path towards NATO and the EU.
The letter is signed by associations and organisations of Bulgarians from Skopje, Prilep, Ohrid, Kavadarci.
