Bulgaria's Mariya Gabriel took an oath on 14th of September as the new member of the European Commission. The ceremony took place at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. By swearing in, the EU commissioners undertake to respect the Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Human Rights in the EU, to carry out their duties in complete independence and in the general interest of the Community.
The EU Commissioner promises not to seek and accept instructions from any authority, to refrain from acting in violation of his / her duties and to carry out his / her duties during and after his or her term of office. Mariya Gabriel was appointed as European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society in July. Today’s ceremony finalizes the procedure for her appointment with a term by mid-2019.
