Bulgaria’s Chief State Health Inspector: The goal is get up to 70-75% of the population vaccinated against Covid-19, but it will not be easy

The state must provide an opportunity for every Bulgarian citizen to be vaccinated. However, the idea is to reach 70-75% vaccinated, but it will not be easy, Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev told BNT on December 9.

Lists of medical professionals who wish to be vaccinated are currently being prepared. He said that there were large differences in the figures of those medics who want to be vaccinated. In some places, interest is low, at about 20-30% want to get vaccinated, while in others it is close to 100%.

He explained the difference by saying that many people would like to have more data and experience with the vaccine. However, trials among more than 40,000 people provide reliable information, Kunchev added.

The countries where immunisation has begun will gain experience and this will provide additional information, he said.

Medics who do not want to be vaccinated at the beginning will be able to do so at a later stage.

Kunchev said that 125 000 doses of the vaccines are expected at the first delivery, followed by other deliveries, of about 250 000 to 300 000 doses. During this time, other vaccines are likely to be approved.

There should be a document showing that a person has been vaccinated. He said that the European Commission was working on creating a single European certificate that a person had been vaccinated.

We realize how difficult it is if kindergartens do not work. We have a 7.1% reduction in new cases. Everything done makes sense in order to reduce the rate of spread and mortality.

We can spend the holidays, with gatherings of no more than 10-15 people. But if we gather in huge groups, we will see the result on January 7-8, said in conclusion Assoc. Prof. Kunchev.
