BULGARIA’S INTERIOR MINISTER: MIGRANTS SUBJECT TO DETAILED ID CHECKS AT BULGARIAN BORDERS

The IDs of refugees entering and leaving Bulgaria are subject to detailed checks, said Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Roumyana Bachvarova on 16th of September. She added that a relatively small number of migrants crossed the country over the past 24 hours.

To prevent entry of terrorists, thorough and detailed ID checks are carried out at the border the minister explained and added that therefore migrants have to wait longer while those checks are completed. She said that the Bulgarian border authorities exercised strict and effective control and all migrants were registered. Very important is, she said, that the Bulgarian authorities also hold migrants exiting the country to ensure they are registered.
