The Council of Ministers on April 28 adopted a decision to extend the period of the declared state of epidemic emergency, as of May 1, 2021 to May 31, 2021.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, for the 14-day period (29.03-11.04.2021), the incidence of COVID-19 in the European Union/European Economic Area EU/EEA is 118.30 per 100,000 population and ranges between 25.53 and 860.73 per 100,000 population. The reported 14-day mortality for the same period was 7.67 per 100,000 population for the EU/EEA, ranging between 0 and 36.29.
The extension of the period of epidemic emergency situation and the implementation of anti-epidemic measures in the country aims to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on public health and the health system.
The outgoing government also provided BGN 83 million for the additional net remuneration of BGN 1,000 for front-line medical workers for the months of May and June.
Of that funding, BGN 23 million would cover payments to Health Ministry staff, who will continue to receive BGN 1,000 per month for front-line work. The remaining 60 million BGN were allocated as a transfer from the Ministry of Health to the National Health Insurance Fund, which would cover payments of 1,000 BGN to front-line hospital staff, as well as 10 BGN per vaccine shot administered, given to doctors involved in the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
