The outgoing Minister of Defence, Nikolai Nenchev appeared in the investigation office in Sofia on 5th of January. He told journalists he was summoned in relation to charges against him.
Nenchev said he believed in justice, believed in prosecutors who in his words were decent and honest people who worked tirelessly. He wished them to perform less orders which contradict with the law and their morality.
The outgoing minister was handed an incitement on charges related to a procurement for sewing of military uniforms. His decision to award the procurement contract to a company of the ministry, Supply Services, instead of a private company, had caused damages for nearly 260,000 BGN, the prosecutor’s office said.
Although the private company Lorton offered the lowest price at the tender, it was forced to withdraw from the first place in favour of the military company. For this compromise, the private company became a subcontractor and saved the provided guarantee.
