Bulgaria’s Parliament voted to go into recess from 12th of October to 4th of November because of the pre-election campaign for the Presidential elections scheduled for 6th of November. The next session will be held on 9th of November.
The proposal came from Ataka party on the grounds that it would be inappropriate to campaign for the elections on public funds. The ruling GERB party requested a revote but the proposal was again adopted after the second voting.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party opposed the temporary suspension of work for two weeks before the presidential elections on the grounds this would interfere with the Parliament's law-making agenda which envisaged a debate on the 2017 budget and a number of taxation bills.
During the adjourn, MPs will not be allowed to use their official cars, except on days when there is a meeting of a parliamentary committee.
