The reorganisation of the medical establishments, the provision of medicines for the hospital and the free market to deal with COVID-19, the implementation of the measures in support of the front line employees against the new virus and in aid of the most vulnerable Bulgarian citizens were the topics reported to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during a working meeting by cabinet members on November 17.

It was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov, Minister of Labour and Social Policy Denitsa Sacheva and Minister of Finance Kiril Ananiev.

Bulgaria has expressed interest in three vaccines

Minister Sacheva said that food packages are currently being distributed to 470 000 Bulgarians and their families, containing the most essential products, and hot lunch and other assistance is being provided for the elderly, people with disabilities, those in quarantine and other people in need.

The important services will continue to be provided next year as well. For this purpose, more than BGN 85 million have been allocated for the municipalities, including in line with the so-called COVID standard. The Minister of Social Affairs emphasised that BGN 120 million will be allocated from operational programmes for the additional salaries of BGN 1,000 for doctors and medical staff working on the front line, and the total resource will be around BGN 240 million.

"These few months we have to overcome this crisis. Hundreds of millions go to the healthcare system. The medicines we are paid extra," said Prime Minister Borissov, adding that Bulgaria has 46,000 beds for active treatment.

"So as a country, we have beds capacity in the hospitals, but need to focus on people with comorbidities, they have to undergo treatment in hospital. Because those 14 days for coronavirus patients are very difficult," he said.

Borissov added that in terms of testing, Bulgaria is doing what is necessary and in line with the European Commission to ensure the best testing opportunity.

The Bulgarian government will provide all types of anti-Covid-19 vaccines offered by the European Commission, Prime Minister Boiko Borissov said at the meeting. He instructed the Minister of Health to prepare a plan for vaccination of at-risk groups of the population, when the country has the approved vaccines.

Health Minister Angelov gave an assurance that the necessary organisation had been set up for people who wish to be vaccinated.

Angelov also reported that within the hospital market there is logistics to provide additional quantities of medicines for the treatment of coronavirus, as well as the possibility of moving medicines from one hospital to another.

" At national level, we do not have shortage of medicinal products designated for the disease, at the moment we have created an organisation for import of additional quantities of the necessary medicines," added the Minister of Health.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov stressed the key importance of compliance with the anti-epidemic measures by every Bulgarian, because it helps in the fight against the coronavirus.
