Bulgaria’s head of state, President Rumen Radev on December 1 launched the 18th edition of the "Bulgarian Christmas" charity campaign, which this year is dedicated to children with chronic diseases.

For many years, the "Bulgarian Christmas" contributes to the establishment of philanthropic traditions in the country and is proof that Bulgarians carry the power of solidarity. With the support of the entire society, with the efforts of doctors and with its transparency and efficiency, the noble initiative has become an institution that enjoys great public support, President Rumen Radev said at the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Children's Diseases "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev” in Sofia, where he announced the start of the 18th edition of the “Bulgarian Christmas” initiative, held under his auspices.

The head of state stressed that the importance of solidarity grows in the most difficult moments and called on the public not to forget the children in need of support.

"I am convinced that we can lend a hand to children for whom the need for medical care is an integral part of their lives," he said. This year has given enough reasons to understand how important it is to be strong together in solidarity and responsibility, to appreciate even more the noble work of doctors, to help the most vulnerable, not to lose hope for the future. These are the values ​​around which "Bulgarian Christmas" unites Bulgarians over the past 17 years.

The campaign, which will continue throughout next year, is entitled "Together for children with chronic diseases - turn hope into reality." The President pointed out that this edition begins with the hope for more saved children, smiles brought back on children’s faces and for calm Bulgarian families.

The main goal of the "Bulgarian Christmas" campaign 2020/2021 is to help improve the diagnostic and treatment process by providing medical equipment for children's clinics and wards throughout the country. This will expand the possibilities of doctors in Bulgaria to apply modern methods of treatment.

Thanks to the empathy of thousands of virtuous Bulgarians, the seventeenth edition of "Bulgarian Christmas", which began on December 1, 2019 and ended on November 30, 2020, has a budget of BGN 2,460,000.

The 17th edition of the charity initiative supported 500 children in the amount of BGN 894,602.

A total of 408 of them received rehabilitation funds; 76 children were assisted in carrying out expensive medicttion therapy, and 16 children with neurological diseases were donated funds for medical devices and aids.

Bulgarian Christmas donated modern high-tech equipment for precise diagnostics and modern treatment at a total value of BGN 1,409,033 to 15 medical institutions from all over the country. Equipment was given to university and general hospitals in Varna, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Ruse, Sliven , Zlatograd, Sofia, Galabovo.

The President talked to the doctors from "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev” hospital - the only independent specialized children's hospital in the country, which provides medical treatment to children for from all over the country. For 17 years, the medical institution has been receiving medical equipment of the latest generation for the clinics of neonatology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology. This year the clinic of rheumatology, cardiology and hematology received a donation from the "Bulgarian Christmas" - a digital ultrasound system for ultrasound diagnosis of children.
