BULGARIA’S PROSECUTOR GENERAL SEEKS LIFTING THE IMMUNITY OF MP’s VOLEN SIDEROV AND DESISLAV CHUKOLOV

Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General, Sotir Tsatsarov, requested from the National Assembly on 12th of October, to remove the immunity from prosecution of the Members of the Bulgarian Parliament Volen Siderov and Desislav Chukolov (nationalist party “Ataka”).

The Prosecutor General sought for permission to initiate penal proceedings against the two MP’s.

The request is based on preliminary proceedings undertaken by Sofia Prosecutor’s Office on a charge of hooliganism after Volen Siderov (nationalist Ataka party leader) and MP Desislav Chukulov, on 10th of October, got involved in a late-night confrontation with shop assistants and the owner of a non-stop alcohol and tobacco shop in the centre of the capital city Sofia.

Evidence on the case show that the two MPs conducted indecent actions, grossly violating public order and expressing obvious disrespect to the public. The act was accompanied by resistance to police officers, who were conducting their duties to protect public order and was characterized with exceptional cynicism and impudence.

It was also identified that the two MPs have separately caused slight injuries to two police officers during conducting their duties.
