Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister Mariana Nikolova on March 15 issued an Order, which sets out single rules for the anti-epidemic and sanitary measures in tourist sites aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 during the upcoming summer tourism season in 2021.

The goal is for all tourist places to introduce the same practices to ensure the health and safety of tourists and for Bulgaria to defend its status as a healthy and safe destination.

The measures for the summer tourist season 2021 are in line with the anti-epidemic measures, including the temporary anti-epidemic measures set out by orders of the Minister of Health, and are obligatory for application by all entities carrying out activity in the tourist sites, which are sites with public purpose in the sense of the Health Act, commercial sites or other sites.

The 2021 summer season will also include guidelines issued by the Ministry of Tourism regarding the functioning of places of accommodation and catering establishments, adjacent to them or stand-alone. They comply with the instructions and recommendations of the World Health Organization,tThe European Centre for Infection Prevention and Control and Commission Communication COVID-19.

The measures must be observed in all types of tourism: sea, mountain, cultural, health (balneo, spa, wellness, medical), rural, wine, eco, congress, children and youth, adventure, sports, hunting, golf and other tourism.

The package has been agreed with the Ministry of Health and is published on the website of the Ministry of Tourism. If necessary, the measures will be changed or supplemented depending on the epidemic situation.

The measures cover the activities of accommodation and catering establishments adjacent to them or stand-alone, as well as the procedures in case of suspicion of coronavirus infection in a guest at the accommodation and the procedure for transfer of tourists and in organized tourist packages by bus. The rules also regulate the use of guarded sea beaches, where a physical distance of at least a metre and a half between individual beachgoers must be observed.

In the free-of-charge beach areas, in every 20 sq.m, it is allowed to accommodate 2 people or up to the number of members of one family.

One umbrella may be used by no more than two people or one family.

In beach zones where services must be paid for, there may be no more than one umbrella every 20 square metres, i.e. at a distance of minimum 4,5 metres and each umbrella may be used by no more than two people or the members of one family.

Wearing masks and distance remain among the mandatory requirements in tourist sites this season
