The Council of Ministers on April 28 approved the draft laws on the state budget, the budget of the state social insurance and the health insurance fund.
At the beginning of the meeting, caretaker Prime Minister, Galab Donev, said that the caretaker government shares the general belief of a budget deficit of up to 3%, but how to do this is the task of the 49th Parliament. According to Donev, the only way to make this happen is by increasing taxes and thus increasing revenues.
"Today, the state budget is a topmost priority. We share the common conviction of a deficit below 3%. How to reduce it from 6.4% to 3% is the task of the MPs. This is not about passing the buck. Since our ideas about revenue measures have not been accepted, it is responsible and sensible to present a budget to the National Assembly that has been developed under the existing legislation. Turning the procedure into a time-wasting exercise would be a move, from which both citizens and businesses may lose. Henceforth, the actions towards the state's financial plan for 2023 will speak for the true intentions," the caretaker PM said.
Today is the deadline for the caretaker government to table the draft budget laws in the National Assembly. This is expected to happen by the end of the day.
