The harsh winter conditions in the South Bulgarian district of Smolyan caused road closure in the section between Yundola and Razlog. The road is temporarily closed for traffic of trailers and semi-trailers, the outgoing Minister of Regional Development, Lilyana Pavlova, said speaking after her participation in a financial engineering forum on 16th of January.
She said that a new front was expected as of today bringing more snow. The snowfall is predicted to continue during the week until Friday across the whole of the country.
Pavlova explained that the weather conditions would be typical for the winter and added that temporary road closures were scheduled in order to remove the snow and then re-opened again.
Code yellow weather alert for expected heavy snowfall, black ice and strong winds is issued for 23 districts in Bulgaria for tomorrow, 17th of January.
Snow is predicted for North Bulgaria, rain-snow mix in the Gornotrakiiska valley and rain is expected in the areas near the Black Sea coast.
The yellow code weather alert is issued for the areas where the rain and snowfalls at low temperatures round 0 degrees may cause formation of black ice on the roadways. In the night before Wednesday 18th of January, the temperatures are predicted to drop and the snowfall to intensify.
Strong wind, blizzards and drifts are expected in North-East Bulgaria.
