Warning for potentially hazardous weather has been in place for the whole country, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said on 5th of January.
Code orange for strong wind and heavy snow was issued for 20 districts in Bulgaria: Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech,Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna, Bourgas, Yambol, sliven, stara Zagora, Haskovo, Kardhzali and Smolyan.
Strong wind is expected from the north-northeast with gusts of up to 22-24 m / s. Intense snowfall is forecast for Northern Bulgaria, expected to form a snow cover of about 25 cm in the mountainous areas. Snowdrifts are possible. After lunch, the snowfall is expected to relent. Black ice conditions are possible in southern Bulgaria.
