The situation in the South Bulgarian district of Smolyan on March 24 is complicated due to the heavy snow. 30 centimetres of new snow cover has accumulated on the high parts of the mountain.
In addition to the heavy snowfall, there is also a strong wind, which causes snow drifts and further complicates the road traffic situation.
Traffic was temporarily restricted for lorries weighing more than 12 tonnes and trailers and semi-trailers through Rozhen, in the area of Batak-Dospat and Devin-Krichim. There are no electricity supply cuts in villages and towns in the area. The situation is very dynamic. Snow ploughing machines are clearing the roads. They are sanded and passable in winter conditions, said the acting regional governor Adrian Petrov.
The intense snowfall continues in the whole Smolyan region. The Prevala Pass is closed to cars.

Troyan pass in the Balkan mountains has also been closed to traffic because of the heavy snowfall.
