BGN 2,442 is needed a month for a decent standard of living of a four-member family in Bulgaria. The cost of living has gone up by 32%, data of the trade union “Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria” shows.
Almost 6 times is the difference between the average wage in the lowest and the highest paid economic activity. The gap between the poorest and the richest is also increasing. The share of households below the poverty line remains high - almost 28%.
At the same time, the incomes of the highest qualified specialists are increasing.
In 2018 the total annual income per person reaches BGN 6,013 or BGN 501 per month.
70% of working Bulgarians receive wages around or below the average for the country. Compared to the EU countries, the average wage in the country is lagging behind nominally between 4 and 7 times.
