Council of Ministers held extraordinary meeting about the harsh weather situation in parts of Bulgaria

At the extraordinary meeting called by the Prime Minister on January 12 on the severe weather conditions in some regions in Bulgaria, the relevant ministers reported that the situation in the country is getting back to normal, the levels of the dams are being monitored and, where necessary, water is being released in a controlled manner.

The ministers assured the Prime Minister that all relevant institutions are in full coordination with each other and ready to respond, including to signals from mebers of the public. Preventive gritting of the road surfaces on the national road network has started due to the expected cold snap. PM Borissov warned that on Friday the winter is coming in full force.

Environment Minister Emil Dimitrov said that all measures were taken to monitor the level of dams. He added that neighbouring Greece and Turkey have been warned in order to take preventive measures.

The regional development minister Petya Avramova announced that all road administrations have received instructions to start gritting the road surfaces preventively due to the expected drop in temperatures.

"Currently, there are no dams that pose a risk to people's lives. Since last week, a team has been set up at the State Agency for Metrology and Technical Supervision, which monitors water levels around the clock," said Economy Minister Lachezar Borisov.

The mayor of sofia, Yordanka Fandakova also reported about the monitoring of the situation on the territory of Sofia municipality.
