Bulgaria’s Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, on January 26, issued three orders in connection with the current epidemiological situation in the country.

The term of the temporary anti-epidemic measures introduced in the country is extended, as of February 1 to April 30.

From February 4, according to the schedule, the in-person attendance classes will resume for the students from 5th to 12th grades:

  • from 4.02.2021 to 17.02.2021 - students from 7th, 8th and 12th grades will go to school in-person;
  • from 18.02.2021 to 2.03.2021 - students from 5th, 10th and 11th grades will go to school in-person;;
  • from 4.03.2021 to 17.03.2021 - students in 6th, 9th and 12th grade will go to school in-person.

From 1 February, visits to cinemas, as well as participation in creative, dance and music classes, are allowed, using 30% of the capacity of the premises and observing physical distance.

From the beginning of next month, fitness centres can resume their work using up to 50% of the capacity of the premises.

Until February 28, visits to restaurants and entertainment establishments have been suspended, allowing only deliveries or taking food for home and offices. An exception to the ban is allowed for restaurants in accommodation places with the current requirements.

From March 1, visits to restaurants and entertainment establishments are allowed, except for discos; bar clubs; piano bars; variety bars and night bars and provided that restaurants and entertainment establishments operate at no more than 50% of their capacity; maintain a distance of 1.5 m between the backs of chairs between two adjacent tables and staff must wear face masks.

From the beginning of the next month, shopping centres and malls will resume their work, and minors have the right to visit them only if they are accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult.

From January 29, those arriving in the country are required to provide a document proving a negative PCR test result. The PCR test should have been conducted up to 72 hours before entering the country.

Bulgarian citizens and persons with the status of permanent, long-term and continuous residence in the country and members of their families who do not present the PCR test document are obliged to quarantine for 10 days.

An exception to the requirement for a negative PCR test result is allowed for:

  • international bus drivers and international freight drivers;
  • crews of sea vessels and aircrafts;
  • border workers and those transiting through the country.

From February 1, it is obligatory to wear disposable or reusable protective face masks in closed public places.

From February 1 to April 30, all citizens who are in closed public places, incl. and in public transport, must wear a face mask. The same requirement applies to open public spaces, where crowding cannot be avoided. This means that it is no longer possible to use shields or other means covering the mouth and the nose other than a mask.

An exception is allowed for:

  • customers in restaurants and drinking establishments, when visits in them are allowed;
  • athletes;
  • children up to 6 years old;
  • speaking at seminars, press conferences, etc.
