22 packages of smuggled cocaine were seized by the customs officers at Lessovo border checkpoint (Bulgaria's border with Turkey) on December 17. The total amount of the drugs is nearly 24 kg with a minimum value of BGN 2 million.
Over 50 kg of high quality cocaine was seized at the port of Varna.
The driver of a car with Belgian registration, with which the cocaine was transported from Bulgaria to Turkey, was detained. He is a 23-year-old man from Yambol, with previous criminal record. The man was detained for 72 hours.
Remand order will be requested today. If found guilty, the law provides for 15 to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of BGN 200,000 to 300,000.
