The indicators of the water samples collected from the beginning of the Bulgarian section of the Danube River are within the norm range. The samples were taken after a possible risk of pollution in the Romanian section of the river following an incident, in which a barge carrying 850 tonnes of fertilizers on board sank in the Romanian port of Moldova Veche on 11th of February.
The Eco inspection in the city of Vidin and the Danube River Basin Directorate continue to monitor and assess the condition of the water quality of the Danube. In case of pollution, it would take up to 45 hours from the time of the incident to reach the beginning of the Bulgarian section.
The analysis of samples shows that electrical conductivity, water temperature and dissolved oxygen are within the required standards.
The results from the physico-chemical analysis are expected, as well as analysis of the seven main parametres, including nitrogen, phosphorus and nitrates.
