DANUBE’S LEVEL CONTINUES TO DROP

On 27nd of July, the lowest level in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube river is at Oriahovo - 37 cm. At Rousse, the water level has dropped to 56 cm and is expected to drop by further 18 cm overnight.

Low water levels along parts of the river may affect navigation.

A ship has been stuck for a month at Belene, where the level is most critical. The ship doesn’t obstruct river traffic, because it is moored outside the main waterway. The Maritime Administration alerted the ship captains to observe the restrictions.

According to forecasts, the river level will continue to drop, but the Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube river say that no bans on shipping will be introduced..
