According to the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the magnitude was 4.1 on Richter scale, at a depth of 13 km.

The tremor was registered 7 km away from Plovdiv at 14.47 on October 23. The epicentre was near the village of Kalekovets and 9 km from Plovdiv. A rumble was heard before the earthquake.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.9.
