The Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov on December 8 received 20 new equipped ambulances from the contractor and handed them over to the emergency medical centres in Sofia, Plovdiv, Bourgas, Varna, Dobrich and Targovishte.
The vehicles were purchased in implementation of the project BG16RFOP001-4.001-0001 "Support for the development of the emergency medical care system", funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Operational Programme "Regions in Growth" 2014-2020, with a total budget of BGN 163,897,815.62

The Ministry of Health has concluded three contracts for delivery, guarantee and service of a total of 358 ambulances. So far, 260 have been delivered under the project. Further 140 remain to be delivered, 42 of which are off-road.

"The project to modernize the emergency care continues. In most of the regions the contracts for construction have been concluded. Construction is about to begin. We hoped that we would be able to start by the end of this year, but now I understand that one of the companies has a large number of sick employees," said the Minister of Health.
The investment project for modernization of emergency care is being implemented throughout the country, and in addition to the purchase of cars, the other activities include construction, reconstruction, repair and improvement of access to 237 sites of the emergency medical care system. A separate activity under the project envisages the modernization of all premises in the structures of the emergency care with new equipment and furniture.
