Extreme fire danger index has been issued for 9 districts in Bulgaria for 17th of August, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said.
The level of warning applies to parts of the districts: Blagoevgrad, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Haskovo, Yambol, Bourgas, Varna, Dobrich and Pleven. With fire danger level extreme, potential exists for large fires, that spread quickly, are intensive and involve tree crowns.
Very high fire danger rating is announced for South and Eastern Bulgaria, as well as in places in the districts of Pleven, Lovech and Veliko Turnovo.
With this level of warning, there is a risk of fires occurring in forests and bushes. People are advised to be careful in nature, not to set fire in the open air and not to throw off unextinguished cigarettes.
