Four Bulgarian border police officers have been detained at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, at the Bulgarian border with Turkey. The police officers are being investigated for corruption – demanding and accepting bribes. Offices and residence addresses of many officials have been searched, the spokesperson of the prosecutor’s office, Roumyana Arnaudova said on 30th of September.
The officers were detained during an operation led by the specialized anticorruption unit of Sofia city prosecutor’s office.
Due to the operation, Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint was closed for passage of vehicles in the morning ion 30th of September. A queue of lorries stretching 6 km was formed but the traffic got back to normal and all cargo vehicles are let through the border crossing at exit and entry. Temporarily, cars will be let through only at exit.
