GERB and United Patriots will reject President’s veto on Election Code changes

The partners in the ruling cioalition, GERB and the United Patriots, on 28^th of February reached a decision to reject the veto of President Rumen Radev on texts of the Election Code.

The ruling coalition will reject the veto because, according to GERB PG Chair, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the President's claims that there is no judicial control are not true. With regard to the rest of the texts that the President returns to Parliament for new discussions, Tsvetanov said he would send the transcript from the meeting of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, where not only politicians, but judges also expressed positions.

IMRO explained that their willingness to support the President's veto was before they became aware of the motives of the head of state. From the NFSB are considering, between the two readings, to propose differentiation of the percentages of the preference threshold for the different types of elections. Ataka are firm there is no confrontation with the President.

Tsvetan Tzvetanov also addressed the BSP, saying that politics out of stubbornness should not be done. The ruling parties will go ahead with all legislative proposals, including those presented by the opposition BSP. They urged them to return to Plenary Hall.

MPs will also decide today whether to change the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly and leave their colleagues, who do not attend sittings without pay. A total of 5 proposals will be reviewed. Yesterday, the legal affairs committee supported the NFSB version. It envisages that MPs who are absent from work for three consecutive days or a total of 5 times a month should not receive salaries. The legal affairs committee, however, rejected the BSP proposal for freezing MP salaries.
