About 2 million Bulgarians will be vaccinated against Covid-19 by the end of the year, Bulgaria’s Minister of Health, Kostadin Angelov, said on January 22 during parliamentary question time.
By the end of the year, there will be a sufficient amount of vaccines in Bulgaria, he added.
"The figures of indicative quantities of vaccines, for which we have signed a contract, have been uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Health. Bulgaria will receive quantities of vaccines from Pfizer, which are approximately 3.9 million doses. Approximately 2 million Bulgarian citizens will be vaccinated," Angelov said.
He confirmed that arrangements for the so-called general immunization are underway.
"All letters have been sent to general practitioners. They will point out the necessary quantities of vaccines for them, based on the lists of patients who wish to be vaccinated and who did not fall into the first phases of the national vaccination plan," he added.
Regarding the vaccination offices, which are created in the Regional Health Inspectorates, in the medical establishments, in the mobile immunization centres, very soon, together with Google, will be presented on a map on the territory of Bulgaria. All information is currently being collected and uploaded on the Ministry's website to be accessible to all Bulgarian citizens.
In the event that more COVID-19 vaccines need to be procured to meet the country's needs, the Ministry of Health will not hesitate to offer the purchase of a vaccine from a non-EU manufacturer whose documents have been assessed as safe and effective, under the same procedure, by the European Medicines Agency and have been approved for use by the European Commission, the minister added.
