Heavy Rains Cause Closure of Rezovo - Tsarevo Road

The heavy rains in Strandzha region, South-East Bulgaria, have caused raising of the levels of all tributaries of Veleka River and the water has flooded the bridge at Sinemorets.

Since, 18:00 on 27^th of September, the road in the direction towards Sinemorets and Rezovo has been temporarily closed for traffic.

Teams of border police, traffic police and military machines are waiting for the water level to drop. According to the experts, the mouth of the river is not blocked, but the strong northeast wind raises the opposite waves and prevents the water from going into the sea.

At present, the level of incoming water is nearly 80 cm above the bridge, and even the heavy military equipment cannot pass.

Zlatin Dimov from Tsarevo Municipality says that the river mouth is open, the water passes over the road, but it will take time for the water to drain. There is a lot of of water and it drains slowly, he said.

Kostadin Dikov, Mayor of Sinemoretz says that the problem is that the bread for today can not arrive. The vehicles delivering bread cars came this morning and came back, he added. In the afternoon the bread will be delivered to the village, we will do everything possible, the mayopr said.

The water drains slowly, as the level drops by about 10 centimeters, experts said. If there is no new heavy rainfall, roads will be reopened for traffic in 15 hours, they explained.
