Heavy rains closed streets in South Bulgarian cities of Kazanlak and Stara Zagora on 24th of October. Code orange for heavy rains is currently in force in Central and Eastern Bulgaria.
On 25th of October, the rainfall will stop, but the code orange alert will remain in place for Kardzhali, Haskovo, Yambol and Bourgas. Code yellow is declared for other 12 disctircts.
The heavy rain in Stara Zagora has caused traffic problems this morning. One of the main boulevards in the town remained impassable. The water level was about 50 centimetres high. Dozens of cars got stuck, others used bypass routes. This led to major traffic congestion in the central part of Stara Zagora. Columns of cars were formed In the direction of the industrial zone.
The precipitation in the town of Kazanlak reached 60 litre per square metre. The torrential rain flooded key junctions and streets. A car fell into a hole, but fire fighters helped to get it out.
The National Institute of Meteorology warned that the weather would remain rainy and the precipitation may reach 50 litres per square metre.
