A bomb threat closed both terminals of Sofia Airport for about an hour on July 28. Passengers and employees were evacuated from both buildings. The bomb theat turned out to be false and no explosive device was found.
The hoax call was made shortly after 9.00 this morning, the Ministry of Interior press centre told BNT. However, it did not specify on which of the two terminals.
Because of this, employees and passengers were evacuated from both buildings. The inspection of the airport lasted about 45 minutes, using special equipment and trained dogs. No explosive device was found.
The situation at the airport is currently calm.
"Two flights are affected which were delayed by about 30 minutes. But in general, operations at the airport are not affected at all," said Rosen Bachvarov, communications director at Sofia Airport.
"Such false signals - it's not just a game, it's also a crime. As far as I know there is every indication that this incident will be investigated as a potential crime. So I draw attention that this is not a joke, it is not a game. Apart from having the potential to disrupt airport operations and create some difficulties for passengers - this is criminal behaviour," Bachvarov added.
