The ice drift on the Bulgarian sections of the Danube River is expanding as the temperatures continue to drop. The ice has reached 50% at the city of Rousse and the town of Oriyahovo on 9th of January.
The ice drift is about 60% at Silistra. The Bulgarian section of the Danube is most frozen at Lom and Vidin where the ice is 70-80%, which combined with low level of water and narrow sections has resulted in difficulties with navigation.
All captains are warned to navigate with caution or at their discretion to take the vessels to inland water areas.
The Agency for Maintenance of the Danube has taken action to collect and temporarily put away the signs on the waterway in order to prevent them from breaking or damaging by the ice blocks.
