An Italian aircraft made an emergency landing at Sofia airport after a failure in one of the engines, the press office of Sofia airport said on 16th of January. Three people from the crew were on board. No one was injured.
The Spartan military transport aircraft of the Italian military air forces made the emergency landing at 17.10. Shortly before that, it took off from Plovdiv airport, South Bulgaria, where it delivered a military delegation for participation in an international forum and on the way back one of the engines failed, which required the emergency landing.
Currently, the aircraft is located in one of the service bands.
Bulgaria’s defence ministry said they would provide full technical assistance to identify the problem and if possible to fix the engine while the plane is in Bulgaria. Bulgarian repair teams are familiar with the technical specifications of Spartan aircraft because Bulgaria has 3 such aircrafts.
