Konstantin Kamenarov Takes Office as New BNT Director General

On 1^st of September, Konstantin Kamenarov was appointed the new Director General of the Bulgarian National Television. He took over the role from Vyara Ankova, who was the head of the public service broadcaster for two consecutive terms, from 2010 to 2017.

Konstantin Kamenarov stressed the importance of continuity and the legacy that remains.

The BNT team is the greatest value of the television and every employee has contributed to it, Vyara Ankova said and wished the new director every success.

On 23rd of August, Kamenarov was elected as BNT Director General after receiving 4 out of 5 votes from the members of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM).

On 21st and 22 of August, the Council for Electronic Media held interviews with а total of 6 candidates who were admitted to that stage of the selection procedure. They presented their management concepts and answered questions from the members of the media regulator.

Konstantin Kamenarov was born on July 31, 1964. He graduated in Medicine at the Medical University of Sofia, but his professional carrer started at the Bulgarian National Television where he started working as a reporter in 1992. In the next 7 years, he worked as editor for the newscast programmes, Panorama current affairs show and then as head of the news team of Efir 2 cahnnel. In 1999, he was appointed a spokesperson of the government led by Prime Minister Ivan Kostov. He then worked in the field of public relations in the telecommunication company Mtel. From 2011 to 2013 he was BNT’s operation director.

He speaks English and Russian. Kamenarov is married, with 4 children.
