Lawyers cancelled the protest they were planning on 21st of February. The protest was planned because of the Money Laundering Act.
They will have a meeting with Parliament’s Speaker Tsveta Karaiancheva and will discuss possible legislative changes in the texts.
The law obliges them to report suspicious cash operations of their clients to the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and train their employees to recognise money laundering.
Lawyers say the new measures violate the Constitution as they threaten the lawyer's secret. They insist that lawyers should be excluded from the list of persons required to report information to SANS and that legal advice be removed from the scope of the law.
