logistical operation supply arms ukraine being prepared

Preparations have already started for the logistical operation for the delivery of arms to Ukraine, caretaker Minister of Defence, Dimitar Stoyanov, said on November 17. He reiterated that there is no need to raise the combat readiness of the army. In his words, the collective air defence along NATO's eastern flank is a project at an initial stage. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg yesterday in a statement following the missile blast in eastern Poland cited the reinforcement of air defence systems as a priority for the alliance.

At the end of the week, the analysis of the arms which Bulgaria can give to Ukraine will be ready.

"We need some more technical work. We are also in the process of preparing a logistical operation, which is not easy at all, it is extremely complicated, because this is armaments that have to be transported from one point to another, both from the territory of the country and outside the territory of the country," Stoyanov said.

Ukraine's ambassador told BNT that Kiev wants several specific systems

"These are means for air defence, for armoured vehicles, for artillery, for ammunition, shells, etc.," Ambassador Moskalenko said.

He also said that Kiev insists that Ukrainian experts participate in the investigation of the missile that fell in Poland.

"A strike on Poland, this is a direct consequence of aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and the whole democratic world, so the participation of our investigators and representatives will only be helpful to quickly clarify and make the situation as transparent and objective as possible," he said.

The defence minister said Bulgaria was monitoring the investigation and the ministry was in constant contact with the allies. However, he said that the idea of a common reinforcement of air defence on NATO's eastern flank, through the collective purchase of anti-aircraft missile complexes, could not be implemented quickly.

"The processes of acquiring anti-aircraft and missile defence complexes cannot happen within a month or two. This is a long and continuous process, it will continue to evolve. In this case, Bulgaria continues to rely on its own anti-aircraft missile complexes and, of course, on our fighter aviation for air cover," Stoyanov said.

Bulgaria will therefore rely on its own air defence.
