A man was buried under an avalanche near the Seven Lakes in Rila mountain, South-West Bulgaria, the Mountain Rescue Service said on 6th of January. About 40 people with sniffer dogs were involved in the rescue operations.
The incident was reported at 11:55 by the brother of the man.
Kiril Cholakov, the Head of the mountain rescue unit in Dupnitsa, told BNT that the man was found, he was still alive and everything possible was done to save him.
The Mountain rescue service says that the avalanche danger at the moment is significant and advise people to be very careful while in the mountain. Skiers should stay in the designated ski areas and not go off-piste, no matter their skill level.
