Massive wildfire is burning in the area of Kresna Gorge.
The fire broke out near the village of Mechkul and is burning in the area of the destroyed church “St. Prophet Elija”.The flames have engulfed more than 2,000 decares of coniferous and broad-leaved forests.
Residents from the village of Oshtava have been evacuated.
It is very likely that human negligence has caused the fire.
The transit gas pipeline to Greece, as well as a 400-kilowat power line, also to Greece, passes through the area, but there is no danger for the line as they are earhted.
The alert for the fire was reported at around 13.50 on 24th of August. According to initial data, the fire engulfed about 500 decares of grass, but it has also spread to a forest.
Twenty-five firefighters with six fire engines, an emergency rescue vehicle and a heavy crawler machine for firebreaks are going to the site. An army unit was requested to support the firefighters' efforts to extinguish the fire.
