Increased number of international students are interested in studying in medical universities in Bulgaria. This academic year, in comparison with previous years, there is a record high number of international students in the first year of their study - 600 in the medical university in Sofia and 1,200 in Varna.

The international students who chose to study medicine in Bulgaria are mainly from European Union countries: Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Greece and the Scandinavian countries.

Academic, Professor, Doctor Vanyo Mitev, the Rector of the Medical University in Sofia says that students choose to study in Bulgaria because the quality of education has always been good, even at a higher level than the average European quality of education. He adds that in terms of what students pay for the education and the knowledge they receive, the correlation appears to be ideal.

Professor Krasimir Ivanov, Rector of Medical University in Varna said; “This is an objective necessity as there is a shortage of doctors not only in Bulgaria, but across Europe. This is why the medical university in Varna is a preferred place by international students, he added.

Competition between the universities in the country does not exist, just the opposite, there is more collaboration.

Tsvetan Yordanov, a second year Bulgarian student says that currently there are more international students than Bulgarian ones. He adds that the international students he knows have shared very good opinions about the education.

Assas Tarik, from Great Britain says he is very interested in studying medicine in Bulgaria. He noted that his fellow students were very kind and made the whole experience in Bulgaria very nice.
