Breakthrough in the fight against climate change. At the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, more than 100 world leaders agreed to reduce methane emissions and halt deforestation by 2030.

To protect and restore forests, governments will allocate $ 12 billion. Private companies will participate with $ 7 billion. In a speech at the conference, caretaker Prime Minister, Stefan Yanev, reaffirmed Bulgaria's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by the middle of the century.

For the ambitious goal of reducing carbon emissions by 55% by 2030, Bulgaria has developed a new set of measures in its Recovery and Resilience Plan, caretaker PM Stefan Yanev said on November 2 in Glasgow.

"It will become a new roadmap for the decarbonisation of Bulgarian industry and for achieving economic growth within a sustainable and preserved environment, which includes the phasing out of coal use by 2038-2040," he said.

Stefan Yanev also stressed that Bulgaria supports the joint efforts of governments, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders in the common goal of combating climate change.

"No country alone is able to face the global threat of climate change, because we do not have the option or luxury to afford failure," added Stefan Yanev.

In Glasgow, an agreement was reached to reduce methane emissions by 30% by 2030. The proposal was supported by more than 90 leaders.

"Reducing methane emissions is one of the most effective things we can do to reduce global warming," added European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Methane is the second largest greenhouse gas caused by human activity.

The biggest promise to save forests has been made in Glasgow. It has been supported by countries such as Brazil, the United States and China, where deforestation is huge.

"110? Right? 110 leaders, whose countries make up 85% of the world's forests, have pledged to work together. Not only to slow down deforestation, but also to restore forests," said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Forests are the natural warehouse of carbon dioxide in nature. But this is until more trees are cut down. According to statistics, deforestation is the third major source of carbon emissions in the atmosphere after the major industries of the United States and China. Only in 2020, the total area of felled forests in the world is larger than the territory of Great Britain.

However, experts fear that the deadlines for tackling deforestation are too long to tackle climate change.
