More than 3,3 million foreign tourists have visited Bulgaria for the period January - June this year, which is about 8% increase, Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova said in Bourgas during the "Cleaner Sea Tourism" discussion at the weekend.

She added that in Bourgas region there was a growth botgh in number of tourists and revenues. The seaside area was visited by 340,000 foreign tourists from January to May, which is 3% more compared to 2016.

In her speech, the Minister also noted that sea tourism accounts for more than 70% of tourism revenue in general.

As reagrds beach checks, the Minister said they would continue throughout the active season.The most frequent violation involves inadequate number of lifeguards.

According to Angelkova, it is necessary to regulate camping sites. In this connection, she pointed out the recent alerts for Coral, where there are unauthorized camping sites and unauthorized use of electricity. A working group has been set up which by 31 August or by 15 September at the latest, will come up with suggestions on how to regulate the types of campsites and licensing requirements.
