Bulgarian customs officers seized more than 50 kilograms of high quality cocaine in a container of a ship at the Port of Varna-West.
The drugs were in packets, hidden under boards. The vessel was travelling to the Netherlands, for where the consignment was intended.
The amount of cocaine found on the ship is worth BGN 12 million, but its market value is five times higher.
A man has been detained in the Netherlands on a European arrest warrant. For two others, the authorities are in a process of identifying what their involvement in the drug trafficking ring was.
Assistance was sought from Eurojust and Europol to solve the crime. Employees of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Customs Agency took part in the operation.
