Some of the mountain passes in Bulgaria remain closed for traffic on 9th of October after the wet snow on Saturday, 7th of October. Road maintenance teams continue to clear Petrohan pass. The pass will remain closed until further notice. The bypass route is through the Iskar Gorge.
Clearing of the roadway continues in the Troyan pass. It is expected to re-open for traffic on 9th of October. The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) advises drivers to not use the closed mountain passes until they are fully cleared from the snow. The snowfall and fallen tree leaves limited the traffic on one more pass – the road between Shipkovo and Ribaritsa.
The snow cover on Shipka peak is about 4-5 cm. The road is cleared and sand was spread on it. Fallen trees were removed. RIA advises drivers not to go on the road if their vehicles are not prepared for winter conditions.
