More than 200 distinguished journalists from 100 countries arrived in Bulgaria on 13th of June for the Sixth World Congress of News Agencies, organized by the Bulgarian News Agency BTA andthe News Agencies World Council (NACO). The event is held at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia and is under the motto "The Future of News". The forum was opened by President Rumen Radev.
The world is changing, and the journalistic profession is changing with it," BTA General Director said in his opening speech to colleagues from all over the world.
He stressed that agency journalism is one of the last bases of real news. That's why he said that inspiration is needed as well as funding.
His colleagues from the world's agencies added that, in the absence of sufficient funding may lead to economic or political dependencies.
Fake news, fight against them as well as populism were in the focus of the discussions.
