Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission (CEC) declined the application of Prezaredi Bulgaria (Recharge Bulgaria) movement for participation in the forthcoming 26th of March early parliamentary elections, the leader of the movement, MEP Nikolai Barekov, said on 9th of February.
CEC members had a three hour long meeting. The reason for being denied registration was that the party of Nikolai Barekov wanted to register under the name of “Bulgaria without Censorship”, but stated that the name “Recharge BG” would be written on the ballot paper.
In addition to the set of documents for the application, Barekov’s team attached a protocol of the decision of Sofia City Court saying that the party changed its name. However, the 7 day period for appeal expires on 9th of February.
According to members of CEC, mainly the ones from the quota of GERB, BSP and MRF, the protocol is not legally binding and if such registration is allowed it will deceive voters.
